Continuity clinic experience offers residents the opportunity to provide longitudinal care to children throughout their three years of training.
Why is this unique?
Simply stated, our community clinics give residents the ability to cultivate relationships within the diverse communities of Seattle.
Residents participate in their chosen continuity clinic one half-day every week throughout their residency training.
In addition, R1s spend a one-month block rotation at their clinic site. A system-wide case-based continuity clinic curriculum is available for weekly teaching by clinic preceptors. These cases, along with handouts and reference articles, are catalogued on our password-protected residency Web site for reference.
The clinic sites are as varied as the interests of our residents.
One shining example is Odessa Brown Children's Clinic which provides pediatric care, as well as dental and mental health services, to inner-city children. “Odessa” has been a vital institution serving the African-American and Latino communities in the Central District of Seattle for more than 30 years.
The Pediatric Care Center at the UW Roosevelt Clinic offers an opportunity to experience a continuity clinic in a practice resembling that found in most urban settings. The center serves as a resident continuity clinic site as well as a practice site for pediatric faculty. Patients represent a varied socio-economic spectrum, ranging from low-income families to children of University faculty and staff.
Harborview Pediatric Clinic also serves as one of our main continuity clinic sites. Continuity clinic residents spend time working with newly immigrated African, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Hispanic families that seek care at Harborview.
Multiple other continuity clinic sites offer unique opportunities and perspectives – from various private practice sites in the greater Seattle area to working with underserved Latino children at SeaMar Community Health Center. In short, we believe you will find a continuity clinic site to nurture whatever your unique interests and goals may be as a pediatrician.
